The 2016 NFADA Buffalo Auto Show is rapidly approaching.  Whether you are currently in the market for a new vehicle or just looking to see what new and improved vehicles are out there, the Buffalo Auto Show is an event you do not want to miss!  The Auto Show offers a wide variety of vehicles to view from high-end cars to sub-compact cars and is a great event to come see them all in one place!

Here are a few vehicles you should be sure to check out while you’re there:

2017 Lincoln Continental

Calm, cool and decidedly continental; the 2017 Lincoln Continental is all-new and offers some sleek new features like an available twin-turbocharged 3.0L GTDI V6 engine offering nice kick with a projected 400 HP.  The Continental also offers an AWD powertrain system that includes torque vectoring across the rear axle.  The grille features a sleek mesh pattern that echoes the Lincoln logo.  In addition to these new, powerful features, the Continental offers a guaranteed comfortable ride with an easily adjustable 30-way power seat, allowing you to customize your ideal seating position.  With its powerful new features and modernized style, the Continental is one drive you are sure to remember.

 2017 Ford Fusion

The new 2017 Ford Fusion stands out in just about every way possible.  With a newly redesigned front grille, along with new LED headlamps and 19” polished aluminum wheels, the Fusion offers an aesthetically pleasing exterior.  The interior enhancements are not to be down-played by this sleekly designed exterior.  Those looking for a new level of style and comfort will be pleased by this new and improved premium interior.  A host of standard driver-assist technologies such as rear view camera, active park assist and cross-traffic alert can help you become more aware of your surroundings and help you feel more confident behind the wheel.  The 2017 Ford Fusion is set to be available in the spring of this year.

All-New 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor

The 2017 F-150 Raptor is not just leaner, it’s meaner.  Its high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy make the Raptor approximately 500 pounds lighter than before; that, combined with its unique high-strength, offers the most capable Raptor yet.  The new twin-turbo intercooled DOHC 24-valve high-output 3.5L EcoBoost with direct fuel injection is projected to deliver even more power than the previous 6.2L V8, and a 10-speed automatic transmission with manual-shifting mode sends that incredible power to all four wheels.  The all-new Raptor is even more of a beast off-road, featuring better running clearance than the first-gen Raptor.  That’s not all.  To manage the power distribution between the front and rear wheels, Ford has added an all-new, four-wheel-drive, torque-on-demand transfer case.  The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is set to hit the market fall of this year.

The NFADA Buffalo Auto Show will be taking place February 11th through 14th at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.  Presale tickets are $8 and can be purchased at any local Tops, NOCO, Dash’s Market, or Wegmans location. Top SUVs to Get You Through Winter

That dreaded time of the year has finally arrived.  Just when we thought that we could possibly get out of this winter practically snow-free, we’re hit with the biggest storm of the season.  All we needed were a couple days of snow to remind us of the harsh, wintry struggles we endure living in the WNY area.  Here are some of the best SUVs that can help to make getting through these months a bit easier.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

While the Grand Cherokee will please fans of adventure and off-roading, it is also one of the best SUVs to get you through the wintry conditions.  The Jeep Grand Cherokee's entry-level Quadra-Trac I system offers four-wheel traction without the need for a low-speed transfer case will please winter drivers.  The Grand Cherokee offers a refined ride with an upscale interior and all of of the necessary cold weather amenities.

GMC Yukon

The Yukon features availability of a 4WD or AWD system and its power is derived from a 5.3-liter V-8 engine that generates 355 horses and 383 lb-ft of twist, managed by a six-speed automatic transmission.  This spacious 9-passenger vehicle will provide enough power to get you through the toughest conditions.

Nissan Rogue

The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivers dependable power through all four wheels.  A few features do help boost the Rogue’s winter credibility. Active Ride Control helps the car smooth out a bumpy ride, and Active Trace Control uses the brakes and torque to help with cornering.  The Rogue offers 3rd row seating, which makes it a reliable vehicle to get your family through the hazardous conditions.

Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V delivers a reliable ride that has made it become one of the most popular crossovers in the country.  This holds true when driving through wintry conditions.  The CR-V’s AWD system might not make it the best option for off-roading, but it safely handles any winter conditions it might encounter.

Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester’s all-wheel drive system will claw through the snow and maintain control in just about any accumulation on the road.  The drive system allows a certain amount of wheel slip while climbing, helping to keep the Forester’s momentum throughout a harsh winter drive.  The Forester offers both an affordable and reliable ride.

Toyota RAV4

The RAV4’s all-wheel drive option is well worth it for the inclement weather capability, sending power to the rear wheels as needed.  The available limited-slip differential allows a certain amount of wheel spin to pull the vehicle out from difficult situations.  It has been reliably one of the best small SUVs for the winter season for many years, and continues to make improvements.

Honda HR-V Named 2016 Green SUV

$

When you think “green” and “vehicle” your thoughts may not rush to SUVs. Normally, we think of tiny automobiles as most fuel efficient. The Honda HR-V is a perfect pairing, however, of styling, smart features and fuel economy leadership, according to editor and publisher, Ron Cogan.

Ron has been leading Green Car Journal for many years. The magazine was first published in 1992 and since that time its mission has remained focused on two areas: automobiles and environmentalism. In fact, the journal hosts events throughout the year to educate consumers on more environmentally sound automobile options. Some of these are ride and drive events, where clean fuel vehicles are test driven by interested drivers.

The award is an honor for Honda, which has won three from Green Car Journal in the past five years.

At West Herr Honda, we hope that you’ll stop in soon for to browse. We have a great selection here in Lockport, New York, of both new and pre-owned vehicles.

If you’re not in the market for a new vehicle right now, we encourage you to stop in anyway and check out our tidy service center. We would be happy to take care of your next needed repair or maintenance need.

Concept Cars of 2016

With the Geneva Motor Show right around the corner, we thought that we’d take a look at some of the concept cars that this year has offered so far.  These vehicles help to expand new, innovative features such as automatic driving capability and a bold use of 3D printing for modular parts.  Whether these vehicles come to life in the future or just remain innovative ideas, these bold concepts prove that the manufacturers are ready to explore new territory and expand the boundaries of the automotive industry.

Buick Avista Concept

This concept may signal a different direction for Buick’s front end styling.  Flowing, uninterrupted lines blended with advanced technical and surface details define Avista’s interior.  Leather and aluminum trim surround the driver and passengers, and reinforce the precision of the performance-oriented driving experience. The Avista offers turbocharged performance with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 3.0L twin turbo V6. This new style could be a major step in establishing the brand’s relevance with a younger generation.

Nissan Titan Warrior Concept

This burly beast looks like it’s ready to conquer anything.  The super-sized, off-road modified design shows an aggressive new style for the truck market.  The all-new Titan XD already has a lot to offer with its Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine, but this concept takes the all-new Titan production version to the extreme.  Jose Muñoz, executive vice president of Nissan Motor Co., states, "While Nissan still has many roads and trails to travel as we continue to launch additional production versions of our bold new Titan, this new Titan Warrior Concept gives an important signal to American truck enthusiasts that our vision for exploring new boundaries remains strong.”

Honda Civic Hatchback Prototype

The Civic hatchback will be previewed in prototype form at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.  Little information has been released regarding this prototype, but from this single teaser shot we can see that the Civic Hatchback will feature similar styling to the latest Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe models. The teaser indicates a sleek and sporty style for this prototype.  We will have to wait a few days to see the official unveiling of this vehicle.

Kia Telluride SUV Concept

Kia could be bringing back a large, rugged SUV back into its lineup.  Not long ago, they released the Borrego; due to the financial crisis and high gas prices, the SUV was dropped back in 2010.  The Telluride sports a giant grille, multiple-LED headlamps, and 22-inch wheels.  The steering wheel, dash, and door panels were built via 3D printing, indicated a future direction automakers are headed with modular parts.

Subaru VIZIV Concept

After its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, the VIZIV has offered excitement for the Subaru brand.  The name VIZIV is derived from “Vision for Innovation”.  The vehicle includes automatic driving functions and other advanced safety technology.  The vehicle features an all-wheel drive platform and Subaru’s signature hexagonal grille.  The VIZIV actively controls the front/rear driving force distribution, improving maneuverability.  Its technologies include automatic driving capability, which aligns with Subaru’s ongoing evolution of the Eyesight driver assist system.

Spring Checklist for Your Vehicle

$
0
0

Despite us lucking out on a generally mild winter, our vehicles have still taken on a lot of damage during these months.  As a "thank you" to our vehicles for helping us survive the harsh winter season, we should always perform a spring checkup to make sure they're in top-notch shape for the (hopefully) warm months ahead!

Here are a few things you should be sure to check off the list:

Leftover Salt Removal:

Besides the fact that it's nice to see what color your vehicle actually is after it's clean, leaving leftover salt on them can cause serious damage. This is especially true in their under-compartments where the metal can rust. Make sure the car wash that you bring your vehicle to has sprayers that can clean all areas of your car.

Alignment & Suspension Check:

We all know that dreaded "clunk" when you drive over those unavoidable potholes in the road. They can really do a lot of damage to your car's alignment and suspension. If the car pulls to one side, that might be an indicator that you have a problem. Keeping your wheels aligned will help to get your vehicle on the road in a safe direction.

Battery Check:

The cold conditions can really wear on your battery. It works a lot harder and can become easily drained in the winter. Winter stress can compromise their performance up to 60 percent. Signs that you might need to replace your battery are dimmed headlights or interior lights. Not properly checking your battery could lead to a costly tow down the road.

Belts and Hoses Check:

Inspect and replace worn or cracked belts and replace hoses that are brittle or too soft. If a belt is broken, it could result in the loss of power steering or an overheated engine. If belts and hoses are older than five years, they might need to be replaced, even if they appear to be intact.

Brakes:

Having brakes that function properly is essential to your vehicle. We rely heavily on our brakes, and wintery conditions and salt can lead to corrosion of brake parts. Our anti-lock braking systems especially get a workout through the winter months. Some trouble signs that you need to get things checked are your vehicle pulling to one side when you hit the brakes, a grinding/squealing noise and when the petal feels too soft.

Fluid Levels:

Spring is the ideal time to flush your transmission fluid. If this is neglected, it can lead to a very costly repair. You also want to check your windshield washing fluid levels, as well as your brake and cooling system fluids. A brake fluid flush can get your brakes working as good as new and is recommended at least once a year.

West Herr Wednesday: John Powers

Meet John Powers!

John just celebrated his 9th year anniversary as Service Manager at West Herr Buick GMC Cadillac in East Aurora and has been in the car business for over 40 years!  John got into the business by working for his brother at Goodyear in 1970, then moving to a gas station service department. He started as a tire changer at Braun Cadillac, where he worked for 31 years, and moved up the ranks there.

What John loves most about his job: Just being able to take a dissatisfied customer and make them satisfied; it's a joy to work for West Herr because we're afforded the ability to do that, and it's expected. Other stores might not spend the money because it's not in their best financial interest, but West Herr goes above and beyond to help the customer which is the most important thing.

John loves to golf and enjoys the outdoors in his spare time (not that he has much spare time); he and his wife are blessed with nine children and seven grandchildren. Most of his free time is spent making visits to his children in different areas of the US ranging from Houston to Brooklyn, where one of his daughters is a nun! Six weeks ago, John just welcomed his seventh grandchild into the world!

We'd like to thank John for putting forth his best effort each and every day and appreciate his dedication toward the company.

On March 7th, a van crossed over the center line, colliding with an oncoming tractor trailer on Genesee street near Harris Hill road. Todd Hutchinson was in the vehicle and his aid and friend, who was behind the wheel, was tragically killed in the crash. Todd's wheelchair accessible van was also destroyed. After the story aired, West Herr was inspired by Todd's story and stepped up to take action by presenting Todd with a new wheel chair accessible van.

“Todd himself is an inspiration so we heard about the situation and we just felt compelled to be involved,” our President & CEO Scott Bieler told 7 Eyewitness News. “It was certainly a tragic situation to start with but a good ending for Todd and I’m excited to be here and I’m enthused by his enthusiasm.”

We'd like to wish Todd and his family all the best, and our hearts go out to the friends and family of his former aid.

2016 Chevrolet SS
6-Speed Manual
Exterior: Some Like It Hot Red
Interior: Jet Black

The 2016 Chevy SS: The Sports Car for Every Day of the Week

If you're thinking… I can’t have a great looking, great sounding sports car that is drivable all year round, think again. The 2016 Chevy SS combines great looks, sounds, and incredible driving feel into one useable package that can still get the kids to school in the morning. And don't worry, they'll be on time. Utilizing a 6.2 liter V8 from a Corvette and a 6-speed manual transmission, (or an available 6-speed automatic) the Chevy SS will take you from 0-60mph in under five seconds. So yes, the kids will never be late to school again.

It would be wrong to say that the SS is only about performance, however. The ride quality thanks to Chevrolet’s Magnetic Ride Suspension is second to none. The SS makes light work of the rough roads and potholes in the Western New York area. It also keeps drivers and passengers comfy in fantastic leather sport bucket seats, that are both heated and cooled.

The interior of the SS is extremely well equipped from top to bottom. A large, color display takes up most of the center console for a clean, stylish look. The information center is simple and smooth to navigate through. A driver Head-Up Display (HUD) shows vehicle speed, outside temperature, and notifications from the vehicle such as a song change on standard XM radio. The HUD is an amazing feature that allows drivers to keep their eyes where they should be, on the road.

Along with the HUD, the SS comes with several other helpful safety features. Forward collision alert, lane departure warning, side blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alerts all come standard to the 2016 SS. Standard features continue to impress on the Chevy SS including three selectable drive modes. The modes: Touring, Sport, and Performance all change the characteristics of the vehicle. Touring mode reduces the exhaust note and serves up drivers a quiet, comfortable cruise. Sport and Performance tightens the steering and suspension and turns up the volume. The SS comes alive with fantastic cracks, pops, and burbles from the aggressive V8. The exhaust is intoxicating, and sounds fantastic both on and off throttle, and if you find a tunnel and roll down the windows, well, you'll like what you hear.

Once you're done playing in tunnels, you will realize that the steering feel and handling of the SS is tremendous for a vehicle that weighs just under 4,000 pounds. The SS is impressive and confidence inspiring. The SS comes with a short, precise shifter, and clutch feel that is very easy to learn in a model equipped with a manual. Saying that the SS is fun to drive would be an understatement.

Why not have the best of both worlds? Functionality and performance both come standard on the 2016 Chevrolet SS.

West Herr Wednesday: Meet Our BDC Managers!

Meet our wonderful Business Development Managers!
Jill Wheeler & Roxanne Carrow

Jill will be with West Herr for nine years this May. She graduated with a degree from LIU in Animal Behavior (Psychology/Biology) and went on to work as an Animal Care Specialist at Sea World in San Diego for about five years. Both Jill and her husband then moved back to the Buffalo area, where she began her career at West Herr. She started as an assistant to the directors, working closely with the marketing/internet manager on projects. Jill's role has transformed throughout the years, and she became Business Development Manager of the BDC (Business Development Center) about four years ago as it moved to a central location. Outside of work, Jill is kept busy with her three children and enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.

Roxanne has been at West Herr for fifteen years now; she started as a greeter at Saturn of Clarence and has worked up the ranks from there. She then worked as a BDC representative at both our Ford Hamburg and Chevrolet Williamsville location, moving over to her current position as Business Development Manager at our centralized BDC about four years ago. Roxanne enjoys spending her free time at her cottage and is excited to cruise around the lake in her recently purchased boat this summer! She also enjoys spending time with her two children and three grandchildren.

Both Jill and Roxanne never thought that they'd work in the automotive industry, but fell in love with the company. They've enjoyed the challenge of working in the industry because it is constantly changing, and employees are always learning and evolving with it. Both believe that moving the representatives to one centralized location has really streamlined the customer experience, allowing the reps to feed off of each other and work together as a more cohesive team.

Interesting side note about Jill and Roxanne: Both married their high school sweethearts, and both of their husbands are also part of the West Herr family. Jill's husband, George, is a Sales Professional at our Buick GMC Cadillac location. Roxanne's husband, Mark, is the General Manager of our Mercedes-Benz and BMW locations in Rochester.

Both Jill and Roxanne were instrumental in developing this BDC team and their drive to continually improve the company is appreciated. Thank you both for all that you do!

More than 600 supporters attended the Ride for Roswell Kick-off Event downtown at Riverworks Wednesday night. Last year, more than 10,000 riders and volunteers took part, raising a record-breaking $4.6 million. The goal for this year is to raise $5 million. West Herr is a proud sponsor of the event and was honored to contribute $1,000 toward one lucky attendee's fundraising goal at the kick-off event.

The 21st annual Ride for Roswell is scheduled for June 24th and June 25th. Routes range from 3 miles to 100, and funds raised support Roswell Park Cancer Institute's cutting-edge research and patient care programs.

Attendees also got to see the unveiling of this year's Extra Mile Club jersey:

Our trucks even made an appearance outside the event!
